Some mornings, I barely have time to make a coffee, let alone shower and wash my hair. I appreciate the benefits that dry shampoo gives us time constricted individuals. Although, playing devil’s advocate, have you thought about the effects dry shampoo has on the environment?
Of course you have, that’s why you clicked on this article! I no longer use dry shampoo anymore because I found a great shampoo bar that really works for my hair and I no longer require the mid-week dry shampoo.
However, I know not everyone is so lucky, so I went a digging again and found some great environmentally friendly dry shampoo for you to try!
But before we get to the shampoo’s, I answer a few questions about dry shampoo.
Is dry shampoo bad for the environment?
Aerosol dry shampoos are absolutely bad for the environment. Aerosol propellants are harming and depleting our ozone layer. You know, the important layer that protects us from the sun’s harmful UV rays, like a comforting layer of sunscreen.
According to NASA,
Ozone is Earth’s natural sunscreen, absorbing and blocking most of the incoming UV radiation from the sun and protecting life from DNA-damaging radiation.
Is there a safe dry shampoo?
Dry shampoos that are not dispensed from aerosol cans or that do not contain talc are considered to be safe dry shampoo.
Talc is not considered a safe ingredient, despite it being used in countless makeup and beauty products. Although not confirmed, talc can be linked to certain types of cancer, including ovarian, so please stay away from it, it’s not worth the risk in my opinion.
Natural dry shampoos, like the ones listed in this article, are a safe choice for dry shampoo.
Is breathing in dry shampoo bad?
I would try to avoid breathing in dry shampoo, whether it contains talc or not, breathing in powder is probably not a good idea. Even though the natural dry shampoos mentioned in this article are non-toxic and won’t hurt you if ingested, I would still try to avoid breathing it in.
